Can we just take a moment to appreciate that in 2024, here in the age of female leads who almost HAVE to be girlboss/girl power/"you hit me, I'll hit back tenfold", we got a heroine like Roz???

Relentlessly kind, refusing to harm, even taking up the mantle of motherhood - which in this day and age so many dismiss as some "lesser" calling. But she is still FAR from weak. It just happens to be that her strength shows itself in kindness and selflessness, not revenge or an epic battle where she takes down the big, bad baddie on her own. "Oh but that's just her programming." Perhaps. But of all the programming she does override in the story, she doesn't let go of that. Even though she's told over and over again that it's not the way the world works.

And yet she's not a flawless hero of the people either! She says things she shouldn't; sometimes she says the WORST thing at the WORST time; her overprotectiveness of Brightbill caused problems down the line; and as much help as she gave, she still needed it herself. And though it was accidental, she still caused murder. That too.

But bruh......are you really going to look at this shot and tell me this is a weak character?

In the state of the world today, it's just a fresh breath of air to show a heroine that gives so much of herself to help others, even those who didn't give her a reason to. That there truly is strength in even the smallest act of kindness.

Today, instead of liveblogging 9-1-1 I went outside and touched grass. Please appreciate my photos of one of the prettiest natural places I've seen in southern Michigan

Every time I listen to Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard I remember the time I was asked to submit a modern poem I liked as part of an English poetry unit. I thought I was so slick picking a song because to me it wasn't "really" poetry but I "didn't like modern poetry." Managed to land a bullseye on the point of the assignment while fully failing to understand the assignment for at least a full decade.

Something else I've realized about color usage, specifically in the very last scene of the movie......

Roz is all shiny and new of course, new parts, new leg, and her glow is now GREEN - perhaps because she has been repurposed as an agricultural bot.

Definitely a visual cue that she may not be the Roz she was before.

She even retains the green glow once she speaks to Brightbill, that is until......

...she says her name. In which it returns to her familiar aqua. A wordless way to let him know it is indeed her; she hasn't forgotten a thing and she's merely "acting" to be a new bot while she makes her plan to return home. 💖

I HOPE THEY KEEP THIS IN THE SEQUEL. It'd be a great visual cue to know when she knows she has to "act", and when she feels like she can be her true self.

Can we please talk about the relationship between Fink and Roz?? 🥹🥹🥹

The Wild Robot spoilers ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Thinking about how naturally and instantly Roz and Fink took to one another. They meet under the most tense circumstances, but soon after, they become an ordered pair. I love how dedicated they both become to raising baby Brightbill. There’s nothing in it for Fink except for being part of a family, and you can tell he really enjoys it even if he never outright says it. He’s deeply sensitive and loving and maybe he hates it about himself, thinks he’s weak for it, but it’s true. Roz sees right through his nonchalant exterior. She understands him better than anyone else.

They raised a kid together and they will always be bonded for it. Only they know how much work it takes to raise a runt. They know the rejection inflicted on them by society, and they constantly fight nature that tries to kill their son like it does with any unfit creature. I’m so warm for the soft moments of concern shared between two parents; “He’s never gonna learn if he doesn’t get out there, Roz,” and, “You can’t be up there with him / then we’ll find someone who can” and they go together, in search of a flight instructor for their boy. :,) And how they both actively involve themselves in his flight training. Carving his ‘baby pictures’ into wood and displaying them by his nest. Quiet conversations like “Things still weird between you two? / Yep, still weird.” Telling him stories about the ‘beautiful robot’ that fell from space. I just… maybe it’s the mommy AND daddy issues in me, but seeing two parents fight for their disabled coded kid makes me feel so tender.

I was so soft during the ‘how do you know if you love someone?’ scene because you see it in his eyes that he does know, because after all this time he realizes he’s come to love her. He wants her to say it. He wants to say it but he has internalized that when he loves something, it never stays. Despite this, we can see at the end of the movie when he’s telling the animals a story just how much he admired her for not only bailing him out of his chronic loneliness, but for everything she did for the island. He’s the main one that keeps Roz’s memory alive after she leaves.

Hopefully in the sequel, we get an ‘I love you’ scene between these two. It’s wholly deserved. I want to be upset that we didn’t get it in the film, but I’ve come to feel that the absence of it is somehow even more poignant. Some things are just obvious and don’t need to be outright said, however, I think hearing it would heal some of Fink’s negative internalized beliefs that came from his childhood.

What the LOA Too Many Games live show was like from someone who was there, in no particular order:

-there was a Sarnax cosplayer in front of me (nails and all). When I complimented their cosplay they gave me an 'offering' (lifesaver candy)

-the whole story was about saving Gideon, an obvious riff on the fact that Mace wasn't there.

-Part of Kremys introduction was that he's ironically married to Gideon. Happy pride.

-Torbek tried to break a mirror with mind powers. Andy screamed for a solid minute I think. Torbek canonically burst a blood vessel.

-Kremy just breaks it with his cane

-Shout out to the pair in front of me who had muffins (delicious) and balloon animals (pictured below)

-There was very loud music playing from the other room and this was referenced in character by Mikey. "It sounds like they're airing a trailer for the next fast and the furious"

-My mom thinks Torbek sounds like Roz from Monsters Inc

-They went to a fortune teller, who (among many things other things) told Torbek he was going to die in Ye Olde Arby's in Ye Olde Columbus Ohio

-Nikkie: You hear Gideons laughter-

The boys- *immediately begin imitating Mace's laughter*

-Theres no other way to say this. Frost and Torbek have sex in the tunnel of love

-the man behind me was very excited for Chuckles. Love that for him.

-Shout out to a well meaning parent that was clearly dragged by the rest of his family and at one point was on the Avantris wiki. I love you.

-There was another body swap. Poor three voice Derek got stuck trying to chuckles again

-Kremy: Gideon once told a joke like "What's the difference between three cocks and a joke? Kremy can't take a joke" I still don't get it.

-Kremy, later, while they're all cursed to laugh: Oh I get that joke Gid said now hahahah

Everyone: *laughs too*

Kremy, while still laughing: it's true though haha

Everyone: *looks to Kremy in shocked silence*

-Derek: *does a popping sound effect*

The audience: *many popping sound effects*

-Andy full on climbed in Mikey's lap

-Gideons laughter was literally being bottled up and sold for a profit (everything comes back to making fun of Mace)
